killing one of them. it happened in oakland last night. cbs 5 reporter da lin tells us police are still looking for a passenger who took off running. >> reporter: two officers pulled over a bmw for speeding. the driver stopped but once the officers got out of their car, investigators say the bmw sped away. less than a mile away the driver of the bmw broadsided a black lincoln on 98th avenue. the impact killed the passenger in the sedan a woman in her early 20s. four other people inside suffered minor to serious injuries. witnesses say they could hear it from blocks away. >> big noise, bang. >> reporter: the chp says after the crash, the bmw's driver and his passenger ran off but officers captured the driver nearby 34-year-old moore facing two charges of evading police and vehicular manslaughter. >> did not appear to be very much under the influence. he was able to exit his vehicle and flee the scene. so that would show that he is coherent. >> reporter: surveillance footage from a gas station shows the passenger sprinting across a gas station to get away from police. and tonight, they ar

of the person who killed rockies, there is a $1,000 reward. reporting from san francisco, patrick sedieio, cbs 5. >> isn't that awful? a vigil was held last night at walnut creek for a young man shot and killed during a confrontation with police earlier this week. the vigil was held outside of the hair salon where he worked. the police were called to an apartment early thursday where a woman said that banta was attacking his roommate. the police say he was armed with a knife and that they were forced to shoot. friends and family say that banta was a gentle person who must have suffered a breakdown. >> and we just don't understand how someone could have taken his life. i am sure that something happened. but how -- someone could take, he is small in stature. 5'4", 130 pounds. how threatening is that? >> family members say police have not shared any information with them about banta's death. the officers involved in the shooting are on paid administrative leave during the investigation. >>> this morning, negotiators in the senate are still trying to forge a last-minute compromise to save all americ

:29. >>> we're following some breaking news in walnut creek. a suspect is dead after being shot by police. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran is at police headquarters in walnut creek where they are going to give us an update at any time. >> reporter: th captain is here to give us an update on this officer-involved shooting. but here's a run down of what happened. earlier, we were told around 3:30 police got reports of shots fired near a home on creekside drive by las lomas high school. shortly after, officers got a 911 call of someone screaming on the line. now, we don't know who put in the call. the officers were able to respond within minutes. now, we're still unsure of the circumstances that led to the shooting but they were able to confirm some information. >> there is one suspect that is deceased. i will not release his name as of yet nor any other details. the scene is secure. and we are not looking for any outstanding suspects. >> reporter: we don't know how many shots were fired but no officers were hurt in the shooting. we know officers are at the scene gathering evidence. we are told it i
